I joined the Los Angeles Review of Books in 2019 as a film editor, eventually expanding my role to commission work on film, television, and media studies on a team that includes Elizabeth Alsop and Michael Szalay. My responsibilities range from the developmental to the stylistic, and I am always open to pitches for strongly argued review essays with arresting prose, surprising connections, and, if possible, a dash of humor.
I also work as a contributing editor for LARB’s print quarterly. Within academic channels, in 2019, I co-edited an “In Focus” section on humor studies for the flagship Journal of Cinema and Media Studies with Maggie Hennefeld and Michael Rennett; I also serve as a peer reviewer for scholarly venues including JCMS (where I am a member of the advisory board), Film Quarterly, the University of California, and Columbia University Press.
For some insight into my editing praxis and philosophy, please read my 2021 essay for ASAP/J, “Credit and Credibility: On Writing and Editing Public Scholarship.”
